She held the role of a CFO in Newfield Publications Inc., Newbridge Networks and Publishers Clearing House.
O’Connell is also a member of the Board for Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCMP) and is the Audit Committee Chair. Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a global pharmaceutical company focused on innovative research, discovery, development and commercialization of proprietary drugs based on prostones. O’Connell has also served on the Board of Beazer Homes (NYSE: BZH) from 2002 to 2007 and was appointed Audit Committee Chair in 2003.
